Slurry containing suspended sand or grit is introduced into the unit via a tangential inlet designed to generate a vortex action. As the liquid swirls inward, sand is pushed outward towards the cylinder wall due to extremely high centrifugal forces. All DeSanders contain an internal cone section that increases the rotational velocity of the water, resulting in higher centrifugal forces.
