Hydration Process Of Cement

Advances in understanding cement hydration mechanisms

This paper reviews our understanding of the kinetics and mechanisms of cement hydration. It follows closely from papers written for the two previous Chemistry of Cement Conferences [1, 2].The main focus is on the hydration of the tricalcium silicate phase, which dominates the hydration process, especially at early ages.

There are several phases in the cement hydration process, which helps to produce different types of cement products. As cement hydration is a time-sensitive process, it can be manipulated using influencing factors, such as water-to-cement ratio, temperature, and other cementitious products. Cement Hydration Process and Its Importance for Strength …

The hydration process of cement is a chemical reaction between cement and water that leads to the material's hardening. This process forms calcium silicate hydrate (C-S-H) and calcium hydroxide, crucial for strength and durability. The hydration process is critical because it governs both the hardening (setting) and the long-term strength development of concrete.

The hydration process of cement with RCP has been previously investigated and reported (Chen et al., 2021). Initially, Portland cement and the active particles of the RCP react with water to form hydrated products, such as ettringite (AFt), calcium hydroxide (CH), and calcium silicate hydrate (C–S–H).
